Four of us had reservations for the new Doc B’s Fresh Kitchen on the now finished Miracle Mile in Coral Gables for 7:45pm on Saturday. After years of new sidewalk and street construction it’s a pleasure to visit the now complete and beautiful Miracle Mile again without the mess.

Doc B’s Fresh Kitchen, restaurant and bar, is located at 301 Miracle Mile, on the corner of Salzedo Street. The modern decor restaurant features lots of wood beams, large windows, soft lighting and leather booths with wooden toped tables. It was built from scratch at the site of the former La Tagliatelle, which was an over the top ornate establishment. That one didn’t last, this one I have a good feeling will be a winner.

We met outside right on time and went in, and although the place was quite full, we were guided to out booth right away. The Menu is quite varied and eclectic, there’s pretty much something for everyone. There’s also a large bar by the front with some flat screen TVs. So yes they serve any type of mixed drink cocktails, select beers and red and white wines.

Some of the Starters are Crispy Oyster Lettuce Wraps and an Angry Meatball. They serve individual Pizzas from Margherita to Bubbe’s Smoked Salmon, to Shrimp & Arugula. They also serve Sandwiches; Crispy Chicken, Leo’s Lobster Roll, and several interesting Burgers, like Cajun Turkey and the “AL Green” Burger. Entrées include Palm Beach Skirt Steak, Danish Barbecue Ribs, Glazed Salmon and a 2 LB. Lobster. There’s also a Special Feature. There are also some Wok Out® Bowls with a choice of Salmon, Chicken Tuna or Fillet Mignon. For Desserts there’s the Double Decker Chocolate Cake, the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cheesecake and the Housemade Key Lime Pie. A few types of Coffee are served.

We ordered Cosmos and Martinis, all good. I had a coke, which had a bit too much ice.

As far as Entrées, I ordered the Rigatoni with spicy Italian sausage with green peas & kale in a traditional Italian broth. Let me say it was quite delicious. The pasta was cooked just right, the sausage was indeed spicy. It was tasty and overall excellent.

Peg ordered the Pan Roasted Chicken with a demi-glace & crispy potatoes; also very good. Others had to try the Hot Chicken which is fried and has a habanero-honey glaze and is accompanied by a healthy portion of creamy coleslaw. And yes, the servings are not small by any means, they are just right. They loved both their dishes.

For dessert we shared the house made Key Lime Pie, which was creamy and very tasty.

Our server Jasmine was friendly and attentive.

The owner Craig Bernstein opened his first two Doc B’s in Chicago. The name is a tribute to his Father, a Doctor. Other locations followed by Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale, as well as one in Austin, Texas.  Two more are to come in Texas and in another here in Aventura. We were lucky to meet him, as he himself came around and actually volunteered to take our iPhone photo. I made him re-take it a couple times, as the iPhone lighting can be tricky. He was very friendly and gracious indeed. He’s had a passion for this business since childhood, sort of like me with art.

With such a varied Menu and overall great experience, we all agreed that we’d be back to try more items in the near future. I can recommend Doc B’s Fresh Kitchen to others.
